At the heart of God’s law for his people is holiness: his own holiness and his people’s holiness (a holy nation). That is, God’s people were called to be set apart (from the nations), pure (morally and ritually), and undefiled by sin. This is why this section of Leviticus (ch. 17–24) is called The Holiness Code. The law served to make the people fit for God’s presence, through sacrifice and atonement as well as obedience. Today, God’s holiness comes to us in a completely different way. It comes to us through Jesus, who makes us holy and fit for God’s presence. And in that holy state, the law now teaches us how to please God and share his holiness even further. Speaker: Dan Kroon
